Since its inception, Tele Atlas has been very active patenting the processes, techniques and hardware that are vital to our business. We first patented several basic techniques and devices for the efficient production and use of digital maps in a variety of applications in the mid 1980s. This tradition continues today with Tele Atlas engineers and mappers submitting numerous invention disclosures each year that cover our methods of making digital maps – everything from harnessing the power of community input to efficient processing of the data acquired by our mobile mapping vans to our unique speed profiles and traffic offerings. This activity results in a wealth of patent applications being submitted every year worldwide and an ever growing patent portfolio that effectively protects our processes and resulting products.
